| POW/MIA Vigil 2008 |
|
 |
The POW/MIA (Prisonor of War/Missing in Action) Vigil is an annual event held in front of Hadley Hall at New Mexico State University. The purpose of this event is to honor all POW/MIA's that have given the ulimate sacrafice for the success and freedom of our great nation. Each year hundreds of luminarias are light across the horseshoe spelling the letters "POWMIA", and a moment of silence is given in honor of these amazing individuals. The Detachment 505 Commander, Lt Col. Stephen Groll, was the guest speaker at the 2008 vigil. The event hosted approximatly 35 guests, and around 15 AAS cadets from Det. 505 helped create, set up, and light the luminarias. During the week prior to the luminaria event, a "cage" holding one AAS cadet, and guarded by two Blue Knights Honor Guard cadets, is displayed along the I mall at NMSU. The cage is manned from early in the morning to late at night, allowing NMSU students to visualize the sacrafice made for their freedom. This year a gallon jug was placed beside the vigil and $282.12 was raised for the Disabled American Veterans Association.
